Having grown up on a small holding, animals have always played a big part in my life - primarily dogs and horses. Much of my childhood was spent exploring the countryside surrounding my home with my Whippet, Pim, or relaxing in the field with our beautiful horses.
I had always wanted to be an Artist - an infuriating childhood dream to contend with when lacking the natural ability of being 'able to draw'. I spent years experimenting with my pencils, and trying to make sense of horses whose legs were often in the wrong places! But still I persevered, battling against the tide as my heart thumped with enthusiasm yet my mind despaired at the sketchbooks filled with disastrous doodles.
But I was so inspired! Every time I saw a rabbit hopping in the field, or a buzzard take flight from a tree.. I would instantly want to rush home and draw them. I felt enthused by their spirit and natural beauty, and longed to capture it on paper. After a lot of persistence, I found my unique artistic style and at long last, I felt content.
However, after I finished school and started full time work, the desire to draw faded and my pencils lay dusty and forgotten in a corner. It wasn't until after the birth of my first daughter that I finally found the time to draw again. On returning to work, I reduced my working hours and this enabled my hobby to turn into a passion. I started offering pet portrait commissions and I haven't looked back. I feel so fortunate - for there is something truly special about being chosen to portray the beautiful personalities of much loved companions.
Alongside my Artwork, my hobbies include long walks in the countryside with my family, friends and dogs, gardening, simple living and self-sufficiency.
